Has anyone used collodial silver with chickens? Specifically internally?
I am seeing a lot of research on this and want to try it out on my hen.
I am wondering on the dosage for their water or how much to put in food for each individual chicken.

Any nay sayers out there with using collodial silver? If so, why?

Thank you but ive read those already. I have yet to find much of anything on dosing chickens with it.

Can I ask what it is you are thinking of treating with collodial silver? Just curious!
I am curious on the effect with a lot. As of now i want to try and treat a respitory issue in one. But I have read people treating it for coccidiosis, mareks, and tons of others. But they never speak of the "dosage". Just that they put it in food or water and within days their chicken is healed and like new.

Thank you for that! I was unaware of it as a treatment for chickens although I thought I may have read about someone else saying it was in their chickens water. Always learning here :)

Chickens do not experience the "placebo effect," though their owners certainly do - "I am doing x, because I want y, so if I see anything that resembles y, or at least not 'not y,' it must be because of x."

You aren't seeing dosages, because to give them out puts the person at risk of being charged with practicing medicine without a license. The manufacturers are deliberately vague in their claims, saying things like "supports immune health," because anything more specific must be backed by repeatable testing (like the venerable double-blind study), and that kind of evidence just isn't there. Be advised, though, that "more" is not "better." Most types of natural cures rely on tiny amounts producing big results, and some can be downright dangerous in large amounts.

What respiratory symptoms are you seeing in your chicken? Some diseases are from viruses, and there is no treatment except for time. Mycoplasma and some other bacterial illnesses can be treated with an antibiotic. Fungal diseases such as aspergillosis, have no practical treatment except for removing any mold in the environment. Providing good overhead ventilation inside the coop all year long is the most important prevention of respiratory diseases. I also recommend only buying baby chicks from a hatchery, and not buying birds from other people that may have diseases, and especially not from swap meets or poultry shows. Here is a good link about common diseases such as infectious bronchitis, MG, coryza, and ILT:

I would not use colloidal silver. For anything.

We have real treatments for what ails our birds.

Thank you all.
And I use regular otc or prescribed medicine as of now. But I've read and seen good research on this and wanting to give it a go. People have sworn by it, and I'm the type to not knock their claims until I try it.

I should also note, people have said garlic is not a good antibiotic before to me, and I have had great success when it comes to infections. So far, its the best antibiotic ive used for my animals and myself. I hear collodial silver can have the same or better effect as well. Just never tried with my chickens before.
