I have Ameraucana and chanteclair 8 weeks old, out of 26 at least 12 are roosters so they must go to the freezer. is 4 to 5 months the best time? I would like to get some meat on them first.

I am still a newbie but I just did some ameracauna x cockerels at about 15 weeks. They were born on Easter and I had far too many boys. A couple of them had some chanticler in them. We ate boneless skinless breast from one of them last night and it was tasty. I would have liked to keep them a little longer because they were still small, but they had to go. At some point the feed you put into them isn't really worth it. I would love to know where the cut off point is.

4-5 months should be perfect timing. You'll know when the time is right if you pick one up to feel what you have for drumsticks and a breasts. I processed my Partridge Chanteclers at 18 weeks last year. I could have done it at 16 week but I was processing white plymouth rocks that week.lol
