Double decker area for run

my chickens are going to be confined to the run now after a fox attack and a neighbor’s dog. They like hanging out under the coop, they’ve even dug a big hole under there of a foot or more deep. As they like hanging out under there, and I need to create more space, I was thinking of making a 4x4 or 3x6 foot platform so they can be under it and there would be additional space for them to hang out above it. I’m thinking of doing it in the back corner.

I’m not sure if this is something they’d use.

What do you guys think?

At about 6months into our new coop that I built, I added roost bars all over to do the same thing and expand usable space when they’re locked up - unforeseen consequence was they liked them so much they stopped sleeping inside the coop entirely and only sleep in the run ever since

Will they use it? Yes probably, but it doesn't really expand the run any (but does give them something to do and would probably provide some shaded area). You'd need to expand the actual run footprint if you feel you need more space for the flock.
