Thought I'd share a little trick we figured out about 10 days ago. The black fence fence around the outdoor portion of the run (6' x 10', we call it the chicken porch), is from Lowes, 36" high. Very inexpensive, but obviously not high enough to keep the girls in. I was keeping a black golf net over the outdoor portion of the run to keep them in, but the wife thought it was unattractive. Plus, it made going in and put of the coop and run area a real pain.
I was going to throw away this old wire garden fence we had lyying around, but on a whim, I figured I'd try it in the run. I installed it about 6-10 inches inside the back fence and bent the top part inwards about 30 degrees. The girls haven't even tried to fly over. The green fence is sufficiently small and unstable that they know they's can't land on it, they can't fly over both fences at once, and, although they can get between the two fences, there's not enough space for them to face the black fence so they can jump up onto it.
Obviously won't keep predator's out, but the yard has 6 foot wood fence around it and we close the coop at night.
Problem solved!
Here's the wire fence from Home Depot, about $28 for 2 of them (20 feet long).
