I hatched this jap almost two months ago and he/she became really ill for the first three weeks to him/her life and I somehow managed to pull him/her threw and now im wondering if this baby will be a capon or a poularde on my farm:)
Ever since a week or two weeks old he/she has been crawling in my hands but when the chick was strong enough i put it with a mother hen and he/she got feral. I separated them after a week or so and they were in a brooder for a bit, But just a week ago I bought a rooster and now the chick has started crawling in my hands again

(Born may 28th, 2025)
Thank you!!

I am not experience in identifying chicken gender, but I love to give it a try.

I have 2 Japanese bantam and I think your cutie Japanese bantam there is a hen because the comb is so small and pink at this almost 3 months old.
If it is a boy you would have seen the comb is larger and red in colour by now.

I do see this, but since this little one fell sick so early on, its not as big or developed as its siblings that i sold.
But hen is good news:) her brother that was 6 days older had red on his face less then a month after being hatched and her half brother had saddle feathers just before a month old! So im excited if i get a little girl

I think pullet, I love Japanese bantams
Vary tough to breed, this year i bred them for the first and it was to difficult I think I produced around 18. I sold my pair to a breeder that was looking to start with them, i rescued two hens that were completely neglected (no feathers, over grown beaks, over grown nails) and gave one to the lady that purchased mine and i kept one, then i kept the sick chick I produced because i refuse to sell ones that need extra care:) but i loved how strong the chick and the hen im keeping are! They are definitely a breed im curious about:)

That's really awesome that you took them, I can't believe people let animals get like that. I used to have a hen and some bantams with Jap mixed in, maybe I can get some more one day. I never sold special chicks either, usually I'm more attached to them anyway. Wishing you luck!😊
