Sorry that this is a double post, I didn't find the right category at first. Anyway, I am considering working on a project to create double Silver Laced Polishes, would anyone happen to know the genetics of them? And steps as to which ones to breed together? I have googled everywhere, and can't find anything on the genetics of a polish chicken, any help is appreciated!

To get the double laced pattern you need to remove the Columbian (Co) gene from the single laced Polish. It sounds simple enough, right?

Unfortunately you'll probably have to outcross to another breed to get rid of that Co gene. I think all Polish varieties have it, but I could be mistaken. That means you're going to have fun fixing combs, crests/beards, and many other things for years to come.

The cross I would personally go with would be with a Silver Spangled Hamburg. After making the initial cross (Polish X Hamburg), cross the resulting offspring together. Hatch many, many hundreds of chicks. You should get a few that are true double laced and several more that are incomplete double laced. These will be the birds to keep from this generation. Breed the doublelaced together and to the incomplete. You'll get more doublelaced to breed and select from. Then have fun fixing combs and crests/beards.
