Hi, just joined. I started raising some chickens for eggs and meat in the spring of '25 with my wife and 4 kids under 8 years old here in sub-Arctic La Crete, Alberta. Right now is not a great time of year for this hobby but looking forward to another summer season. We started with some Red Stars (I think) and Orpingtons but ended up moving those to my parent's operation (yards are connected) and got a bunch of Barred Plymouth Rocks which did some breeding for us but are now in the freezer. Hatched out a batch of 29 chicks in an incubator on Dec 5/6 and currently those are all we have in the coop. There are 14 BPRs and the rest are what we're hoping will be an Easter Egger mix, out of Red Star Hens and Jeff our Ameraucana rooster. Excited to see how they'll do. Here are a few photos I took yesterday, so they'd be 7.5 weeks.
