Hi there. I just cracked open a double yoker chicken egg from my Isa Brown chickens that has been collected in the last week and the egg white is almost completely red like blood and the egg yoke doesnt look right either. This is the first time this has happened and I was wondering if anyone knows the cause or if I should be concerned.

FYI we dont have a rooster so not possible its a fertilised egg

I have a Welsummer hen that does this on occasion. No double yolkers but definitely bloody albumin. Since I have 5 Welly hens it's almost impossible to catch the guilty party and happens about twice a year. The Welly's are pushing 3 now so not surprised but still would like to know what causes it just out of curiosity.

Welcome to BYC! Wow, that's interesting. Possible reproductive tract infection? Do you know which hen laid it? Has she laid all normal eggs since it?
We have 4 chickens so would be difficult to identify which one but so far since we get 4 eggs and they are normal size

Ok, our chickens are all about 12 months old. We geyt double yokers from time to time but never like this

What I notice when I stumble upon a bloody albumin egg (usually when I'm baking and have to start over due to the bad egg) is that the egg white is very watery.

I have Marek's in our flock and have wondered if there is a connection there.
