Double yolk egg!

Got my first double yolk egg today! I had a feeling this one might be because it was a jumbo in comparison to the usual small eggs my pullets have been laying for the past month. Anyone know what causes this? I know it’s not a usual occurrence but I’ve seen egg farms by me with a waiting list for double yolk eggs. Just curious how they even do that lol

I get 1 or 2 a week. I love it no idea why though

My Easter Egger did it a lot when she first started laying. I loved it too. She’s just about to start laying again. Hoping for some double yolks again! I think it’s just like women releasing two eggs when ovulating. And hear it’s more common when a pullet’s system is figuring out laying.

It’s a 1 in 1000 occurrence. Nothing real special to it that causes it. Just the hen releases two yolks at once. It’s considered to be generally lucky or a sign of twins.
