Greetings and salutations Fellow Chicken Wranglers,

Here in Central Florida, my Wife and I have Rhode Island Reds and Americanas that have bred and hatched chicks. The chicks are now laying eggs, mostly green and shades of red to light pink. Our green eggs have been double yolkers and because we will let them brood and hatch as they please, we have an egg question that we hope someone can answer for us.
If double yolk eggs are allowed to hatch, will they hatch two chicks from one egg? or hatch some kind of circus side show chicks that are Siamese twins or two headed chicks or some such other oddity?
Please advise.
Thank you and happy chicken raisin!

I've read stories not personally experienced it but have even seen videos of double yolkers hatching to twins. its a very delicate process that usually needs intervention from the care giver for them to survive. look on you tube about hatching twin chickens. its quite a process and very interesting. the lady at the time of hatch had to carefully and slowly help the chicks out of the shell. in the video I saw she had two twin eggs. the first egg both chicks survived. second egg one chick survived. you ought to take a look at the video its very interesting. so based on that it is possible with intervention for them to survive. odds are not in favor but possible. and they were two separate twin chicks. not anything deformed. although I'm sure that could happen to. you should take a look at the you tube video and decide weather or not you are up for the challenge. hope this helps. best of luck
