Double Yolk

I don't think I've gotten any (don't open them very often either), but it seems the jumbo quail are more prone to laying double yolkers. Think of jumbos as the 'dual-purpose' birds of the quail world.

The middle one on the left was our double yolker and it was from the first eggs layed by our jumbos.

Grandson fried it and ate it as the egg was cracked.

yep even had one develop with two chicks inside however, only the one survived to pipping but then died I had no idea the egg wasa DY'er it was too small for me to pay attention to it as anything other htan a normal egg lol! I had one egg it was HUGE it was a double yolker but it was broken whenI got to it i still dont know how it came out of hte bird it was about 3 inches long!!!

That's awesome! That egg is huge...I've birthed 10lb babies, so I feel for that hen.

I've heard that double yolkers can produce healthy chicks but more often than not they are deformed or otherwise unviable.

Right now I am getting one double yolker almost every day from my big browns and they're not very big at all! They sure do taste good!

Cody!!

I get double and even triple yolkers quite frequently with my Jumbo Browns. The grandkids get a real kick out of it! I just hold back the huge eggs and boil them up for hubby.
