So it’s that time of year where hens wanna be mothers and so we have broody mommas. Well I found a hen in a book and cranny sitting on 4 eggs and one happened to be a double yolker. I was praying she just got em but nope they were at least in day 5. So I came to the conclusion if i toss it it dies and if I put it in the incubator it may have a chance or it may die so either way at least this way I have it a chance. It’s a huge double yolker and I see two chicks inside, tomorrow is lock down so I thought I would share my experiences. I know that kinda a golden rule to incubation but my better nature took the better of me. But they look healthy! Does anyone have any experience with this? This picture was on day 14

I'm trying to hatch Turkey eggs from a broody hen & then raising it separately because I lost 4 turkey chicks being raised by momma hen last time around. So on 8th day I was planning to keep couple Chicken eggs so the momma doesn't get lonely once they hatch.

I got 3 eggs and one was unusually large which I was sure was a Double yorker. However it turned out to be this

I had a urge to keep the big egg for hatching, but in hindsight its good I didn't, because no way the white would be sufficient for all 3 to mature to full grown chicks!

Excited for you to get double chicks! :thumbsup

Does anyone have the video saved?

The link on page 16 isn't available! :hmm

Got Candy Aug 2000, she LOVED to GO ... Had a bag that looked like a purse so she went EVERYWHERE with me, no one every knew & I took her everywhere in that purse. She was a "fake" Chi, never had the attitude nor yappy, just plain SWEET. When we returned to HI to take care of my parents, I went through 2yrs of prep with the Dept of Ag so I didn't have to put her in quarantine, she'd die due to separation anxiety ... We both would. I got lucky with the airlines in misunderstanding a note the Vet wrote, so she was able to ride in cabin with me instead of having to go cargo (Nov 2010). She did not like it here, I could tell, she then started getting sick around Christmas. Tests & meds until March 2011 she started having seizures, April it was time to let her journey the Rainbow Bridge. We still miss her :hit View attachment 1491006View attachment 1491007
Ohhh she was a beauty of a sweetheart!
My rescue boy is a faker, too. He’s always by my side, has become my service dog, and only barks to alert me. He’s VERY smart, VERY submissive, and prone to anxiety. But he is SUCH a love. When any of my family comes home after work or an outing, he greets them with SUCH excitement! He’s also pretty much terrified of big dogs, so we have been working with him.

I know you are very busy, @Scott214 but would love to see pictures whenever you get a chance. I know everyone is asking, but I can wait until the timing is right for you. Just can't believe we have pictures of twins hatching, you have done such a wonderful job, and I guess I am still excited. Thanks for putting up with us and all the hard work you have done, while sharing it all with us. :hugs

I'm thinking Scott214 is very busy....

i have 71 chicks hatching this month and 20 are under 3 broody mommas! So I’m on edge this whole month and I’m also receiving a shipment of chicks too! So they won’t ever be lonely. It’s fun but very time consuming but I love it! They seem very identical! Bean is a little lighter .
