Douglas County, Colorado chicken laws?????

I want to know what the laws are for chickens in Douglas County, Colorado were...... Any idea please just post please!!!!!!!!!!!!

The number of poultry and fowl (including chickens) allowed on parcels within Douglas County vary based on the size of the parcel and the zoning. Parcels between 2.3 acres to 9.9 acre and zoned Estate Residential, Rural Residential, Large Rural Residential, or Agricultural One allow for up to 30 poultry and fowl (they must be properly housed such as in a chicken coop and the chicken coop must meet the minimum setbacks). On Large Rural Residential and Agricultural One parcels of 9 acres and greater the number of poultry and fowl allowed are not limited (again they must be properly housed and located outside the minimum setbacks).

There are areas within Douglas County where chickens are allowed as a household pet (Highlands Ranch is one example; however this is not common in other subdivisions). Currently Douglas County Planning is processing a change in the Douglas County Zoning Resolution that proposes that female chickens be allowed as a household pet. Douglas County allows up to 4 household pets; however covenant controlled communities may be more restrictive. Before adding chickens to your home it is best to call your local planning and zoning department (Douglas County is 303-660-7460) and discuss the specifics of your request. If you are in a covenant controlled community make sure to check with your Homeowners Association.

In areas that are zoned Suburban Residential (SR), the County allows 4 female. Although Douglas County allows up to 4 chickens in the SR zone district, many of these residential neighborhoods are covenant controlled communities which maybe more restrictive. There is also a chance that when the subdivision was originally platted that there could have been documents filed with the County that prohibited this use. Before adding chickens to your home it is best to call your local planning and zoning department (Douglas County is 303-660-7460) and discuss the specifics of the request.
