Doulbe Yolks and Newbie Incubator

i am going to wait till ten days yes egss said fertile but feedback from other buyers is not good.... this will be 12 eggs now and none fertile, i have the janoel 24 so eggs are incubating on their side so all is good, its autumn here so these would be the last eggs of the season ?

the main thing that worries me as a newbie is i have nothing to go on experience wise even if i had an egg that started to grow would give me a bit of confidence.

anyway i have my aylesburies in the bator now so will candle them next weekend to see if i have anything

if nothing i will wait to the spring before i have another go

I forgot you ordered these eggs. How far were they shipped to you? Shipping is very hard on fertile eggs! I'm thinking what may appear to you as double yolks could be loose air cells. Be sure when you do your next candle, to shine into the air cell on the fat end.

The best asset to your lack of experience is that you found BYC! We're here to help, so hang in there and keep trying!

I will be anxiously awaiting the results from your next candling. Good luck!

Hello and Welcome to BYC from the UK :)

I usually aim for 50-60% on my duck eggs and I hatched 6/6 Welsh Harlequin eggs also from UK eBay (I wonder if we bought from the same seller...). Raise the humidity to 65-75% on day 25.

It sounds like the eggs weren't fertile in the first place so I would contact the seller and complain, maybe ask for a refund or replacement eggs.

this was the seller he had 4 sets for sale? ive bought 2 sets none fertile

should the air sacs be moving around as it seems a lot are like bubbles in a spirit level they float to the top and not at the fat end

Fall eggs can have low fertility. When birds are molting or just coming out of molt (summer-fall) fertility tends to be low - non existent, just as it is in the first few weeks of the spring season. An experienced or knowledgeable breeder would be aware of this. I would hate to think that someone would be taking advantage of newbies by selling "hatching eggs", with low fertility-infertile eggs. Hopefully the seller will supply you with some fertile hatching eggs next spring. Preferably about a month after ducks are laying & not sooner to avoid this same problem.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Whoo hoo. Congratulations you have fertile eggs! I even see something in eggs 2 & 6. do they look like spider veins? maybe just not quite as big as the others? So happy you finally have hatching eggs to learn and experience from. Excited to see your ducklings in a few weeks.

Hi all going into Lockdown tomorrow with five potential eggs anyone have any advice

Can I candle before moving them down onto lower shelf should I candle?

Don't open incubator until all are hatched

Raise temp and humidity 99. And 65-75%

Move them to brooder once they have dried out and fluffy

Should I move the eggs for food or just have crumb in the brooder

All excited lol

Good luck! I normally don't candle mine, but you can if you want to. Just stick to the crumb in the brooder, but if you are using chick crumb I would recommend mixing 1tbs of BREWERS yeast per scoop (available from Amazon or health food shops such as Hollands and Barratts).
