Alright, I've heard of a single breeding pair producing four eggs in one clutch, but I've also been told that if you get four eggs, you *definately* have two females. My "pair" are unknown, they've laid four eggs before. Duck had them before me, and never had them raise a clutch, but they were sold to him as a proven pair. I *THOUGHT* I saw them mate the other day, but they could have just been fighting over the feed cup (it was just a quick glance type of thing). They've been doing the "lets make a nest here" dance to each other, and the one has been acting broody, laying in the nest dish, the other hovering around. Yesterday night, I checked, no eggs, tonight, I check, and I have two eggs, and both are in the nest with the eggs. I took a picture of the other egg (about two weeks ago) and it looked like it had the fertile bullseye. I have not actually seen them do any of the bow cooing, and I'm not 100% sure that they've bred. So... what the heck is going on?!

Here's the pic of the egg with the spot again...

I'd LOVE to have dove babies, and I'm willing to buy two males and a new cage, but, first, I need to know wth these birds are, male/female pair or two gals?!

If you got two eggs in one day you have two females. Plus if you are not seeing the bow cooing you have two females. The males do it lots of times during the day. I am pretty positive that you have two females as a pair would have had some babies for duck. They are quite prolific!

I was sold a proven "pair" of Blue Masked Lovebirds last Fall. Tonight I had them surgically sexed as it is much more reliable than DNA sexing since they still hadn't produced for me. Well guess what my proven "pair" turned out to be? Two very fertile males!! The jokes on me! You never know who you can trust and obviously this person was not telling the truth to duck about these two or they grabbed the wrong two when they sold them. I am gonna bet you have two females there!

Well, thank you. I didn't really want to split these two up, but I guess I'll have to if I want babies.

That means that I'll have to buy yet another cage, lol. It's a darn good thing that my husband really likes the doves, otherwise I think he'd hide me.

Too bad we weren't closer to each other as I have a Silkie Ringneck Male who would love to be a dad again. I have to throw their eggs away as he lives with his mom. I could ship him to you but not sure if you would want to go that route. He sure is a nice guy!

Are you being serious? It would probably cost a fortune to ship, wouldn't it? Probably $40-$50 just to ship? Lol. Do you think he'd be alright? If you're being serious, and you think he'd be ok, let me know what it would cost for him and shipping, and I'll have to think on it. I have found doves around here, but they're all another 2.5 hour drive one way, and after what happened with trading with Duck, there's no way that I can convince hubby that another road trip is a good idea.

Plus, I've only found normals and whites, in standard feathers, never found any silkies.

Yes, you can ship Doves. They are one of the birds including most poultry that are legal to ship through the post office. I am thinking it would be about $35-40 to ship and I would probably ask about $20 for him since he is a Silkie and a proven father. I think it would be best to warm up a touch before he would ship though. Think about it. I would be in no hurry to see him go. We love the little guy! I am sure you could find some cheaper without having to ship but it would be nice to know that you are getting a male for sure. Too bad I don't have two!!

I thikn you should really consider that silkie dove from BQH!!!! If i was into doves I know i'd grab up on that offer ASAP! I dont know ANYOne with silkies around here......not even the petstores around here who sells SEVERAL types of doves and pigeons!!!
