Its right around 0 here today. DH was down to the coop about 6:30 or so this morning to give fresh water and collect all of 2 eggs. I waited to go out until 4PM and was thinking all the eggs would be frozen. The water wasn't even frozen! DH had used the bobcat a few days ago to pile snow up around the coop to within about 2 feet of the roof and it was downright balmy in there! Plus, he put about another 3 inches of straw in there over the weekend which helped.

There are days when my DH is a good man, a very good man.

That was so nice of him. Mine DH cleaned out the coop for me the last time. I wonder what he wanted?

I must admit when I got home last night and went to the coop I too thought I would find frozen water and eggs. Nope, all was well. It only got to 13 degrees yesterday but it was nice and sunny and I think with the sun warming the coop, the fact I didn't open any doors and the chickens body heat keep things above freezing in there.

When the chickens are down on floor milling around and all it keeps the water from freezing... At night when they go to roost I just bring waters in and refill in a.m. for them...
This morning I had to shovel paths to my barns from the heavy snowfall overnight...
My silly ducks were waiting for me to fill their water pan with warm water and feed them.. They followed me as I shoveled the paths! Gotta love em
