Some of you may have seen references to the "Oviedo chickens" in some of my posts. Oviedo is a town in the Greater Orlando area just a few miles from where I live. They have for many years, probably decades, had dozens of chickens living in the downtown area. Most of them hang out in a little shopping center featuring a CVS, ACE Hardware and, of all things, a Popeyes Chicken restaurant, which is where they especially like to hang out.

I thought you might enjoy this short documentary on the Oviedo Chickens.....

I like that they hang at the back of the chicken shop...

Makes me wonder.....why is it that chickens love to eat chicken meat and eggs and stuff so much? It's kinda freaky actually!!!....

I recommend you check out the island of Kauai in Hawaii.... serious chicken population there!

Does anyone feed them at ll or are they truly on their own?? One of those things here I am slaving and pampering my chooks and they still either die or get eaten by various critters!

I think some of the store employees probably toss them some food occaisionally, but they don't belong to anybody and they appear to be very self-reliant--and they seem to multiply. They scratch all over the place...medians, parking lot islands, grass areas. A few of the properties, a church and a bank, to name two, have large lawns and they spend a lot of time there. It really is a sight. Most people don't bat an eye, they have been there so long. If you time it right, several of the roosters will really get going with the crowing in the middle of the afternoon. There is also a huge variety, including several bantam breeds, including a couple of bantam roosters.
