draing fluid from hens body

Hi, so i have heard of this condition where a hen can collect fluid in their abdomen much like humans when they have liver failure. One way to reduce the swelling is to drain the fluid with a needle. How and where do you put the needle to do this to make sure you are not hitting a vital organ? Thanks.

you need to go to a vet first... this condition is called ascites and is caused by different things which you really need to figure out...the vet will usually show you how to do this yourself (and you need to give antibiotics when you do this)...here is a thread on it I saved from the ezBYC location:

Thanks. I was spelling the name so badly I couldn't find it! I still wonder how you can get a needle into a bird without hitting something important. I've butchered many a bird and it seems like you'd hit something! But I guess if the bird is full of fluid, there should be a big fluid filled space inside.
