Drake biting hens leg???

I have a pekin drake whom we added to the flock about 5 months ago to give our mallard hen some company. Now I know he’s getting close to being sexually mature and I’ve been watching him for signs of trying to mate but he hasn’t really? Other than this problem. I bring them in for a bath every night and he’s begun to grab onto my mallard hen’s leg hard and not let go. She tries to swim away but he grabs her by the leg and won’t let go until I get him off of her. This is my first time owning a drake, I don’t know if this is normal drake behavior but I don’t want my mallard to get hurt. She is so much smaller than him... and he only seems to do this when I have them together in the bath. I’ve never seen him be aggressive towards her outside in the chicken run.

Do they not have a kiddie pool? Ducks breed easier in a bigger pool of water.. He is not experienced so will grab onto anything to get her to submit..Duck breeding is rough.

@chickens really no they have a few small buckets outside but not that big. The most water they get is in the bath tub when I bring them in

Mating will not be that pleasant. But they will both get the hang of it.

Well that's the problem...He is excited in the Tub..A kiddie pool would allow him to learn how to mount and breed properly...Interfering only frustrates him.

You need a bigger body of water like a kiddie pool...Your tub is to slippery and not the correct size so bath them separately till you get a pool..

@chickens really we don’t really have the ability to get a kiddie pool. We don’t have a lot of room and our hose is completely across the yard. We wouldn’t be able to clean it or fill it and we’d have to dump it out inside the run which is filled with sand...

Also someone said kiddie pools were bad because he can drown her
