In front of my computer
So I have a pair of calls. They have always gotten along great, last spring the male was a little rough but not bad. Well, this past month I introduced a new female, so its a trio. I've noticed him getting a bit more aggressive towards me, charging my boots and such, but not bad. And he's ALWAYS on top of "his" female. I've never seen him doing it with the new one. Well, this morning when I went out there was a bit of dried blood on the back of the female's head. Now, it always gets bare-ish in the springtime as a result of him, but never bloody. So I let her swim, then examined it more closely. It appears that she had a scab there and he somehow pulled it off. She's not in pain, and it was only a little bit of blood, but should I be worried? Should I separate them? I mean, they are VERY closely bonded, but he is just so aggressive that I'm afraid he is going to hurt her. Advice?

What I do is give my girls a bit of time out from the drakes daily. the drakes get locked into one part of the yard and the girls get the pool and have time to just be girls. Sometimes I do this when I let everyone out in the morn. to give the girls time to lay and sometimes it's late in the afternoon. just depends on what I am seeing. but for him to be putting a ouch on her head and causing bleeding I'd say she needs some R&R away from him. Them boys can be so demanding.

Well, I separated them for now. he is in a cage, inside their coop. So they aren't separated separated, they can still can see eachother. Seems to be working OK, and she's getting a much needed rest. Thanks for the advice!

after a few days try letting him out with supervision just long enough to bath and play a little, if he starts in on the duck right off then back to solitary.. And I'm sure your ducks appreciate a little rest. and relaxation.
