I want to breed from my Pekin ducks again before they stop their laying cycle but I have a runner drake as well. I have separated the Runner drake off into a pen as of this yesterday evening but how long will it be before I can harvest the eggs and be guaranteed Pekin ducklings? Last time I hatched I had an accidental cross over because be didn't think that he was about because we had only got him and his two ducks three days before, and we now have a sort of tiddly bottom heavy duckling which is VERY sweet but not really good for either laying or the table... So any feedback would be great. Many thanks!!!

In chickens a hen can maintain high fertility for 2 weeks, moderate fertility for 3 weeks, and occasional fertility up to 4 weeks after the removal of a rooster. The generally accepted 'clearance' period is 3 weeks. I am not certain whether or not ducks retain sperm for that long. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will respond.

Thank you for replying! If no one else replies I guess i'll just try for 4 weeks.
