Drakes, are they like roosters

I didn't make my bed and you can't make me!

Glad I am not the only one who doesn't see the sense in making the bed. I am just going to rumple it all up as soon as I crawl back in!!!! LOLOLOL

I was told a drake helps keep them together as well, but I find that depends on the breed. My boys adore the girls, even if they squabble over them in the 'season'.

If you don't want more, just make sure you pull the eggs. I prefer them over chicken eggs (at least runner eggs and aussie eggs).

If they are all the same clutch you wouldn't want them to breed anyway.

Jack used to get very grumpy when he couldn't see all of the girls. He would start his raspy PEEP PEEP PEEP and he wouldn't shut up until they were all in one spot. When he started that noise, they would all come running...they knew they were in trouble

Most of the time (I've heard), a chicken/duck will take over the position of the 'head honcho' of their flock in the absence of a male. They may even attempt to crow (in the case of chickens) and stop laying eggs/grow male plumage.
