Have you thought about going as Tetra, from The Wind Waker? She's technically Zelda, but more pirate-y.

I wouldn't mind being sheik, and I am sure I could pull him off, and wouldn't need a face mask!

(Sheik is a girl) I think that for Tetra simply pulling your hair up in a high bun would do the trick... or putting your hair in one of those little hair-curler clips.

Midna is not quite the problem, her smaller form is okay, but she doesn't really bother me, I think it's some other character...
