I've always lived in cities where backyard chickens were banned, or was living in apartments. My boyfriend and I are in the process of purchasing a house 7 hours up North and I will be able to finally legal own some hens!!

I'm really excited to start building the coop and to get my hens, because, let's be honest. Chickens are the cutest animals ever.

I have my heart set on buff Orpingtons. They're so fluffy and winter hardy, which where I'm moving currently holds the record for the coldest day in all of Ontario in 1938 at -58° Celsius.

BUFFIES I LOVE THEM!! I have like 4 of them, very hardy and strong. It´s in about 35f degrees at night right now.

Welcome to BYC! Yes, if it get's that cold where you are at, you need some good hardy breed that will be able to handle it! Good luck!
