Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

Great deal at the grocery! When we used to go to the grocery together, it was like having a little kid with me; Jim was constantly wanting to throw things into the cart -- mostly junk food that I didn't eat!

My Jim was in the 101st Airborne. He, and decades earlier, my dad were both at Aberdeen in Maryland for a time. Jim was in R & D there, and Dad was in Intelligence. They were great buddies and both gone now.

Anjanet, hope your little one is feeling better and the rest of you stay healthy.

Looks like a lot of really cold weather here for the next week or more. There are single-digit nights in the forecast.

I am already so over switching out chicken waterers and thawing the frozen ones indoors. Didn't run any electrical cords last year after the incident with smoldering straw in the duck run. Still need to see if the heaters for the goat and sheep waterers are in working order.

Hope everybody gets their final outdoor projects done.

Any task I haven't already completed will likely hold off until spring, if it's remotely possible. On the plus side, I've read two books in the last week. And, I've got more due to arrive in the mail any day now. If not for all my critters, I would hibernate until spring.

I wonder if I will become accustomed to this cold weather ?
our deer hunting season starts in a week. they are saying
possible below zero ?? I'm glad I don't hunt anymore.
Kalib went to see his GF. Randy is going to a wedding
in Iowa. that leaves Annie and me alone. I can't get
an answer out of her what she plans to do today.
If I'm not involved, I want to go work in the shop.

Our Walmart has 5 lb bag of potatoes for 50 cents, I will be canning all weekend, lol. DH just shakes his head.
I assume you are canning potatoes ?
I never did that.
I am curious. what is the best way to get
the most potatoes into a jar ? leave them whole?
cut into chunks ? slice ?
Potatoes keep well in a cold dry place.
IMHO.. I would store some. and if I were to can some,
I would try to time it to use the canned ones when the
stored ones are used up. that would save a lot of canning.

Did you get all your canning done, Anjanet? I admire your ambition. I have a still-in-the-box steam canner I need to use soon or just get rid of.

Jim, did you work in the shop over the weekend?

It looks like I will have company this weekend, so I am planning to surprise them and FINALLY get the kitchen painted. When the east end of the ceiling was repaired, the new texture (and, no, it's not like popcorn ceilings, much more subtle and was already on the rest of the ceiling) got sprayed onto the tops of the kitchen walls. Makes it look a bit like frosting sliding down the sides of a cake.

I went to Sherwin-Williams yesterday to have the can of paint I bought two years ago this month thoroughly shaken. I would rather paint outdoors than indoors, I despise all the taping and prep work. I am telling all of you about this so you will hold me responsible :). Don't let me get away with postponing this task again!

Hope everyone has a good week!

Thanks Barb for asking, I got 25 of 55 lbs canned, I needed a break so I will be working on it today and tomorrow. I did also freeze some for DH's sides for work meals.

We have snow! About 1 inch so far and falling. It has to be slippery out as the bus had a hard time stopping for my youngest this morning! Haven't seen a plow truck yet.

Working the desk job but thankful I do not have to drive into the Cities, the older I get the more of a homebody I am. I do need to bring in wood and check the chicken waterers throughout the day so at least I can get some stretching/walking in.

I hope you all have a happy Monday.

**Edited as no I don't burn snow and apparently didn't have enough coffee before typing this :)

Annjanet, are you burning snow, now ?
We don't have any snow yet.
No, I did not work in the shop this weekend.
Saturday everybody was gone, so Annie and I
went slumming. had dinner at the Lemon Grass.
Panang Kai (curry beef) They bring me red pepper
flakes, I add my own. I like just enough to clear
my sinuses..
Then I watched football on Sunday. The Packers
finally squeaked out a win,.
Barb, I will chide you plenty until you get the painting
finished. Of course you can always say you have it done,

how would we know ?
