Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

thanks for the good luck wish. it worked ..
I drove Ollie out onto the driveway and
began to do the necessary shifting.
just as it felt like it went into high range,,,
Ollie ran out of gas. what timing.. I put what
gas I had in the can, which wasn't very much,.
started Ollie up and ta daaa, high range..
it was so cold and windy, my eyes kept watering.
so I parked Ollie and came in..
glad that's over..

It was a balmy 65 degrees when I got up, and within the last hour, it has dropped about 20 degrees. And, the wind has kicked up.

Figured I'd scoop coops quickly since it could be in the teens tonight. I mucked out the duck shelter yesterday (by far, one of my least favorite jobs), and today, I added fresh straw for them and the geese. Only the waterfowl are loose; I left all the chickens in their coops with the doors open. Very few have ventured into the runs.

I filled the stock tank so the ducks and geese could sneak in a quick bath before the cold hits. It looked like they all had a great time.

The new furnace filters are installed, and I have a pile of books on the end table. I'm preparing -- as best I can -- to hunker down for cold weather. How long until spring?

I guess I'm the only one still wishing for colder weather. I shouldn't be wearing short in November.

I dumped my rain barrel and switched a few plastic buckets to rubber ones so nothing cracks when it cools off. I'm gonna wait and see before I plug in the heated buckets. Not trusting it to stay below freezing yet.

I guess I am as ready for winter as I need to be.
today I helped GS put in a post to mount his Satt
receiver on. I figured it would be our last chance
before the ground freezes.
I am thinking of not moving that brush pile
with Ollie. I have to drive across the lawn and with
the recent rain, I figure it would make too deep of ruts.
I will wait until after the ground freezes. and if I don't
get it done, there is always next summer.
One thing I do have to do is get the back blade
onto Ollie. It is more for the counterweight than
anything else..

This is me! ME, ME, ME! I am waiting for the cold but not trusting that we will stay below freezing as well. I am not going to do the heated bowls just yet, I also am worried a bit about the chicks still, deep bowls in cold temps for under 3 week old chicks is not how I want to start my winter.

Still in the 60s here, wind is just starting but it isn't cold yet. Both of my girls do not like wearing coats so winter is always hard, haha I hate wearing socks. :)

I took advantage of F*F's deal of 10% off for veterans . I bought
5 gal of transmission oil for Ollie.
Starbucks has 10% off on a cuppa, too. so Instead of 10.oo it
is only 9.oo. I guess I shouldn't complain, My GS works for
Starbucks.
So far we have our bedroom window still cracked a tiny bit.
That might come to an end tonight.
Annie bought a couple of McD's cheese burgers. I kid you not,
the hamburger pattie was thinner than the slice of cheese.
I think McD's has a new position. they have an artist who
paints a picture of a hamburger pattie onto the bun.

Jim used to drag me EVERYWHERE that was offering a discount on prices or a free meal on Veterans Day. Good deal on getting the good deals!

I like the Rosamunde Pilcher novels, which are set in Great Britain, and I marvel that her characters are always leaving their bedroom windows open a bit, even when it had snowed. I assure you, all my windows are closed tightly!

The wind chill here is 7 degrees. Nothing more to say!

Sounds like a lot of good deals Jim. Thank you for your service.

My DD works at McDonalds, and I agree the patties have gotten much thinner. We prefer Burger King the few times a year we eat out.

Our windows are closed up AND plastics as well. I do not like being frigid, cool yes, turning blue nope. Our windchill has it feeling like 17 out. Chicken water is staying thawed so less work there.

Was up all night as the youngest seems to have a tummy bug, thank you to her classmates! Ha. We havent had a tummy bug since she was in daycare and she is now in 3rd grade. Hopefully it doesn't move through the family. SO I was up all night and took a nap from 645-845 am and am just having a cup of coffee.

Need to stack wood and add some straw to the coop, that will probably be it for the day! Enjoy it the way you want ;)

I am regretting not getting my heated buckets out yesterday. Hopefully the hose thaws so I can fill them up later. Supposed to get up to 35 so it should work. Dummy here tried to use a wrench to turn the plastic knob on my water hose splitter and broke it off. I guess I will need a new one next year.

Thanks for your service Jim, and anyone else who served. My husband was in the 82nd Airborne. I appreciate all who choose to serve, and all the sacrifices made, so that I can live in a free country.

Nothing but cold for the next week or more.
I am thinking of light a fire in the shop stove
and working on the chainsaw vice. If I can get
it warm enough in there, I might even take a
look at DD Barby's chainsaw. I think I will just
put a new carburetor on it rather than trying to
clean the old one.
they cost only about 15.oo..including a spark plug.
Annie took me to the grocery store for veterans
perks. If we spent 20.oo we got 12 free items.
the free items came to 35.oo. sliced honey ham,
a frozen Lotsa Motsa pizza and bags of treats etc.
there were a lot of guys with their wives who
looked out of their comfort zones . :lau
