Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

I'm running all kinds of schemes myself too. Way too many with chicks, hatching eggs, ducklings, poults, goslings, and kittens. :)

I used to make pickles. I stopped because I can't do all that anymore. It's easier to buy them now for me. I may try some quick refrigerator ones this year.

OMG you have it worse than I do!!! :lau Plus the puppy!!! :th

The chicks were kind of an accident because I ordered them in like January and I meant to cancel them but never did and now I think it’s too late or like I feel rude doing it less than a week away (hatch date of the 15th) soooo here we are 😂🙈

The eggs I was honestly thinking I was going to have to wait till like late summer or fall to be able to hatch but then turns out the Welsummer started making fertile eggs at like 4 months old and I’m curious what an EE/Welsummer would look like and possibly getting rid of him soon soooo 😂🙈

And yeah, it does seem like a ton of effort which is why I didn’t do it last year but I do want to try it at least once haha I’m curious.

Winters are too long here which gets me in trouble. Way too easy to order things too.

Most of mine don't come until June. I have 29 chicks coming, and 4 more geese. Turkey poults, 15 of them ship June 15. I have one bantam hen currently with 7 chicks, probably another with 8 chicks tomorrow or Monday, and one sitting on 3 due in 2 weeks.

My vet tech is gonna get me some pheasant eggs I'm gonna stick under some bantam hens to hatch. I have a dozen lavender Orpington hatching eggs coming mid May. I have a muscovy hen sitting on 13 eggs.

I think that's it. Oh and the kittens, and of course my pup which is doing very well.

OMG you really do have it so bad!!! :lau but yessss!!! The winters are long and someone had mentioned this breed so I spontaneously ordered them and another at like 2am :lau I don’t regret it though lol I think I need some cute little fuzzies!! :lau

I need to get the brooder ready lol thankfully it should take about 2 seconds now that I have that stock tank. I’ll just rinse it out, move it to the garage so my dad doesn’t find out, fill it with shavings and plug in the heat plate :lau and of course food and water lol

Already have food thankfully.

Probably should not be hatching chicks atm either considering I have these babies coming but I really want to and it will likely take me a little while to collect enough eggs anyway sooooo

we used to can pickles. when the kids were still at home to eat them, I can live without them.
I do like the Vlasik spicy slices..
If you are transplanting peppers, do them like you do your tomatoes. put them into the ground right up to the bottom leaves. I learned this trick from a friend who really knows how to grow things. Your peppers will have much thicker walls. Mine were four time as thick as store bought peppers.. I plant only green peppers..
If you can get bees to visit, your vine crops will produce ten fold. We had a hive of honey bees . Until they froze out..
when I can tomatoes, I do not peel them.
I cut the stem out and run them through the food processor, but the next time I do tomatoes, I am going to scoop out the seeds and that jelly like substance they are in. I should get a thicker juice that way.
..My dad made pickles once right after he got married. I wasn't born yet for 8 years but mom used to tell us about it.. He added so much salt that they couldn't eat them. He dumped all the jars out behind the barn.
He claimed that they didn't rot for five years.:lau

Yeah, I haven’t had any in a while but I love the bread and butter kind. I want some now. :lau

And thanks for the tip!! I actually do that with most of my plants anyway and sometimes even bury the bottom few leaves. :) makes for stronger/deeper roots I think.

I planted Shishito, Cayenne, Sweet Chocolate, and some of the colorful blend ones I think of bell peppers.

We are lucky in that we have a lot of bees naturally. :)

I’ve never canned tomatoes before but we sometimes make salsa from them.

And OMG that’s hilarious. :lau hopefully mine won’t be a fail :lau

The table is starting to get a bit full. :lau
