Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

Some might die back to the ground, that send up new shoots. My raspberries are 2 year plants. They die back after the second year. Maybe the older canes can't handle the transplant? I would just wait and see how they go.

You don't generally fertilize newly planted plants as it can burn the roots. That's what I read at least. Probably the slow release granulated stuff is okay, but the liquid stuff can kill plants. I learned that the hard way years ago.

That's a nice sized addition for your hens.
Awesome thanks for the insight. I will let nature take it's course. I can always add more ;)

I'm a pretty lazy gardener. I'm always surprised how many of things thrive on neglect, and rough handling by me. Seems the more I try to keep something around the more determined it is to die on me. So every plant for itself is my motto.

I plant a lot of whatever, I figure some of it might survive. lolol
I am sitting here eating a fresh mashed potato roll. They go good with the cowboy beans that I am going to make in a little while.
that one raspberry plant might have been on it's second year of growth. they don't transplant well.
let it die and find some nice new shoots to replace it.
we planted about eight raspberries many years ago.
We neglected them and now there is a huge patch of them. once they take hold they are like weeds.

well, the picnic was a great time.
we both ate way too much. you know, we had to sample a little of all the food. we even had gyro's.
when we were leaving, driving on the road through the woods from the camp, we almost hit two small deer. I think they listen to a car coming, and then at the last second they panic.
just before dark, our doe showed up under the apple tree. I am glad to see she made it through hunting season. I might regret having these deer hanging around. but as long as they don't nibble my grapes and new trees, they won't be a problem.

Good to hear it was a good time. We are seeing more and more deer hanging around here. I've given up trying to keep stuff safe. It's so random.

Not much getting done outside today. Hopefully we get the remaining shrub planted before it rains too much.

No ambition to be found around here today.
I did go and check on the grapes.
the new buds are looking good.
the tall one on the arbor is needing some pruning. there are more than the required two shoots at the top for the two side arms. I will have to tie two of them to the top wire to get them pointed in the right direction.
my radar doesn't show much hope for rain today. I don't know where you are, so I can't tell about the radar.
I hope you got the shrubs planted.

Shrub isn't planted yet, probably when we go back out to feed critters again. I'm about 50 miles south of you Near Wisconsin Rapids. It's a slow on and off drizzle. Not too bad, but enough to keep us in the house.

yaaay , we are getting a nice soaking rain this morning. really needed it to leach the fertilizer down to the roots.
it should be done raining about noon.
Annie is making beef barley soup.
it is a good day for soup.
too bad there is no home made bread to go with it.
she put some slightly wrinkled apples under the apple tree for the deer. sort of asking for trouble, eh?
lolol

Do you hunt Jim? Otherwise that is asking for trouble feeding the deer.

I woke up to a dripping ceiling in the bathroom. Husband had to work out of town for a few days. I'm glad there's no more rain in the next few days. We have plans to replace that roof section this year. May happen sooner rather than later.
