Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

Not much ice out there today, just that bitter wind. You know it's a shock to the system when even my geese were all inside the shed today.

The only problem I had was last night at midnight I took the dogs out and went to put up the bantams run door which I access through the goat fence gate. The gate is held close by a clip, and of course it was frozen. Still is today. So this old lady decided to climb over the 5 rail fence to close the door as I couldn't reach it trying to lean over the gate I needed to open.

After lots of moans and oh shoots, not really the words I used, but let's say it was, I got over and close the door. Climbing back out was a bit more tricky as the fence apparently leans inwards. All I know is climbing fences is no longer one of my abilities. Next time I find a stick.

I suppose seed math is in the same category as chicken math.
Now all you have to do is try to refrain from ordering more when
spring draws near.. good luck with that ..
Lisa, you have to find a better hobby than climbing fences.
a long time ago, I had to give up jumping down off of any curb..
I don't even jump to conclusion.
the only exercise I get is running off at the mouth.

I always end up with a lot of seed packets, but than seem to use most of them up. Once they show up in the store I will start gathering some up again. Time is flying by. In no time there will be seeds for sale again.

I haven't tried climbing a fence in many years. I now see why. Getting older means you have to get smarter too.

Ever have one of those days when you wonder when the attendant is going to let you off the roller coaster?

Yesterday started out great; my early-rising sister and I were getting projects done before my 8:30 a.m. appointment at the Ford dealership. There have been three recalls needed on my Focus. I had a $5 coupon for an change oil so I asked them to do that along with the free repair. Rather than wait for 1 1/2 hours at the dealership, she also was driving into town, and we were going to do some shopping.

Carolyn left first, and I backed out of the garage onto the ice-covered parking pad where her SUV had spent the night. I thought I could hear the crunching of ice but was distracted by the stupid garage door. When it's really cold, the automatic door drops, then lifts on its own. I have to repeatedly hit the button to catch it at the lowest point and TRY to get it closed. I failed, and the door was stuck about 2 inches above the concrete.

Distracted by the door and gale-force winds, I didn't realize that I wasn't hearing crunching ice; I had run over a set of weights on a bar, which were now stuck under my car. After a fair amount of swearing and several attempts, Carolyn returned, we put vehicle ramps under the car and removed the weights. Car is fine, weights are not.

A series of calls to the dealership -- first when I thought I had to cancel, then when I thought I would just be late, then when my phone wouldn't disconnect and kept recalling the number -- convinced me I had to race into town. Where I discovered that, without telling me, the customer service rep had given me a later appointment time.

So, we had a nice time shopping but wondered why no one was texting that my car was done. We returned to the dealership. Turns out "my" technician was pulled off for another job. Had we known, there were projects back home we would have been doing before she had to head back to southern Iowa. Work ended up taking more than 3 hours. But, hey, I got a coupon for a free car wash.

Carolyn, who lives almost 3 hours away, got home safely and quickly -- thanks to strong tail winds. I spent the evening with Cayman Jack, my lovely, premixed margarita pal.
