that white tube is how the water from the right barrel gets to the
left barrel. when the right barrel fills up to the tube, there are holes
drilled in the tube and the water will drain into the left barrel.

this is the down spout. I have to add a longer down spout to the elbow.
the wind blows the water dribble slightly.

the holes are at the underside of the tube
I am going to add an overflow tube into the left barrel.

Will you add a top screen to keep out the mosquitoes?

Great work on the rain barrel, Jim. I have a rain barrel that has been beside the house, unattached, for years. It was a project my Jim was going to tackle, but never did.

Yesterday, I picked my first full-sized tomato of the year, which follows my weekend harvest of the first hill of Yukon Gold potatoes.

Last week's rain has revived the crunchy grass. My riding mower is working fine, but I had to order a new battery for the electric one that I use in smaller spaces. Even on sale, those batteries are far from cheap.

Is Wisconsin still getting a lot of the Canadian smoke? Yesterday, it was pretty thick here.

Yes, we have the smoke. It seems to hover mostly at cloud
level, but plenty still gets to the ground. Annie's eyes are
always watering.
I finally found a 2x2 vinyl downspout. Fleet Farm. It is
more expensive than Menard's, but Menard's doesn't have
any in stock. won't have any until 7 26 23, I want to get
this project done..
I have just a couple of green tomatoes starting. romas..
I have to get at the grape vines. they are wild.. lots of
pruning to do..
elderberries are looking plentiful this year. we have a couple
of patches located near by.

I got the downspout installed with the help of Annie.
surprisingly it all fit.
now all I have to do is make the cover .

I used a piece of brown for the top piece as long as I had it.
I used only four feet of the new ten foot piece.
thinking I might put a gutter on the other side of the porch
someday.
that long white tube has to be cut off.
the elbow with the riser will keep the water from flowing
out this end of the tube. It is removable so when I add the
third barrel, I can fill it tooll

when I started the project, I was going to just get
the water away from the house. It came down the valley
and seeped down along the foundation. then it wou ld seep
in at the hallway to the laundry room.
the rain barrels was just icing on the cake.
I did not have to use any well water for my tiny garden at all.
