100 pounds of blackberries!?! What exactly does someone do with that many? You could fill a whole wine cellar, couldn't you?
I need to email Dawn, who said she doesn't know much about chickens, and point out that at least she didn't feed them kitty litter
Sorry about your racoon issues, Lisa. Are you still feeding it?
My chicks spent their first night in the new coop. They had been in the run for field trips that lasted a few hours, and that's all I was planning to do yesterday. But when it came time to load them up and haul them back into the house and upstairs, I decided to take the easy way and coop them.
I may have overestimated the easy part. Because I was so involved with taking care of the outdoor cats and kittens, I didn't spend as much time as I usually do socializing chicks. I regretted that last night. As soon as I would snag a chick -- all of which seemed terrified -- and pop her into the coop, she or another one would leap back out.
I finally gathered up everyone in a cardboard box and released them into the coop all at once. As soon as it gets light out, I will see how they fared in their new shelter. I am not looking forward to cleaning their indoor brooder and the surrounding mess, but it will be nice to have it all gone.
Somehow, while I was gone, both zucchini plants died. At least I didn't have to threaten folks with mountains of free zucchinis, but I wouldn't have minded getting a few more.
Grasshoppers have destroyed most everything in the garden, save the cherry tomato plants. They have eaten the tops off my red onions; that's never happened before.
New folks took over one of the Fort Dodge greenhouses and have TONS of nice, healthy plants for sale. I told them and myself that I was only looking, but I came home with three beautiful daylilies, priced at 50-percent off. I LOVE daylilies and will plant them ASAP. We had rain yesterday morning, but it looks dry for the rest of the week.
