Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

The weather has been seriously erratic. I won't complain about the 40s and 50s that I can never before remember this time of year. But, I'm certainly grouchy about today's 7 degrees. I have a dentist's appointment this morning and will be doing chores in the dark and COLD.

At least, so far, there's not a lot of wind and no precipitation. I have not had to shovel the driveway yet this winter. :celebrate

And, maybe since I don't want to work outside, I will finally sit down and start reading the book "Small-Plot, High-Yield Gardening." I have plenty of room for bigger gardens, I'm just not interested in tending a large area.

I bought a $2 kit for growing basil while my sister was here last week. Basil is probably my favorite herb, so even though I am an annual failure at seed starting, I'm going to give it a try.

I am willing to forego the groundhog and go along with the muskrat theory. I like his prediction better anyhow.
we made a kettle of chicken soup yesterday.
we just leave the pot on the stove and help ourselves whenever the mood hits. not very much left over.
I like to chop the veggies and meat for soups.
I like the pieces small. don't care for large pieces hanging over my spoon.
I kind of volunteered to go to sun prarie and supervise my nephew and niece while they build a shed for my sister. I have it half built in my head already. lol she had a place that build sheds that was going to do it. but they couldn't/wouldn't put the big door where she wanted it. the slab and ramp are already poured.

barb, you will have no trouble with basil. plan on drying a lot of it from that one planting. I like basil. good in sloppy Joe's and chili.

well, I am some polish and I like all the items mentioned. maybe it is the Irish side in me.
1below this morning. I have not checked for snow
GGS was here for about an hour yesterday. they were headed to Michigan. will stop in for overnight on their way back on Monday .
bro Dave changed out the baseboard heater.
still doesn't work. I hate to think we changed a bad heater with a bad heater. by process of elimination, the transformer is next. I will have Annie's bro Dave do that. He is better with electricity. I can't see well enough, but I can still coach.
Annie bought a "kit" for making gyros. had everything needed. enough for six helpings.
I ate one so far. had another taco for supper.
there is a lot of meat still left to use up. I will do my best.

Way warmer outside than it looks. I was grateful for that. Seems the cold has settled into my bones this year and I am having troubles shaking it.

Jim keep working at that meat. My husband cooks big batches of stuff too. Now he has vacuum sealer and enjoys bagging up and freezing the extras.

Been months since the last one, but I had a coyote wake-up call this morning! Big dog barked about 1:30 and, through closed windows, I could hear howling. Ran downstairs, grabbed a hoodie to throw over my flannel nightgown and dashed out in my house-slippers, yelling at the top of my lungs.

Sound carries well in the cold, stillness of the night. I hope the neighbors -- even though they are not terribly close -- are sound sleepers. Or, people who are forgiving of my tactics.

Spent the remainder of the "night" sacked out on the sofa, but clothed in sweats and thermals, just in case I had to do a repeat performance.
