Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

So sweet that you buried a tennis ball with her and put up a statue! You must have loved her so much.

I haven't eaten meat in years. Not even the carcass of my troublesome rooster, Billy, a Cochin Bantam who will clamp onto my (always heavily gloved) hand or sleeve and refuse to let go.

Amen to winter making decisions for us. I had a fairly important appointment scheduled for early yesterday morning, but the thought of shoveling out the driveway in the wee, dark hours convinced me to call and reschedule. I did shovel later, and I will get to do that again today. Thankfully, we were short of the 5 inches that was predicted.

Good news yesterday! There had been intermittent, annoying beeping coming from the basement, and I believed it was from a back-up battery installed either by the Internet people or DISH network.

It was neither. The beeping stopped, and so did the dial tone on the landline. I called the phone co-op at 8, and by 10:30, there was a repairman here. And, because it was the co-op's outdated equipment that caused the problem, the fix was FREE!

I keep the landline as a back-up to my cell phone. Living in the middle of nowhere, it makes me feel safer to have both options.

It's absolutely frigid here today. How's everyone else's weather?

Yesterday was our coldest day of this frigid week, car read outdoor temp at -32 as I was taking the poodle in for a teeth cleaning appointment. He is so cute when he chatters his teeth when it's cold out, I wonder if other dogs do this, he's the only dog I,ve ever known to do it. Maybe Shrekdawg would know..

That's cold. Our black and tan coonhound would teeth chatter when he was excitingly waiting for his supper.

We still have a landline. Apparently they plan to stop servicing them, and want to switch them over to digital. We have poor internet here, so not sure how that will go.

Currently 6 degrees. Supposed to warm up to 20 tomorrow. We plan to go shopping, so that should help.

Yea Brew used to teeth chatter when excited or overly stimulated lol

Not looking forward to next week. Hopefully they are wrong about the wind chills.

At minus 32 degrees, my teeth would likely be chattering along with the dog's! Looks like brutal weather ahead for us all. I thought it felt as if we were escaping winter much too easily this year. Guess we aren't.

Lisa, I would hate to lose my landline. Sometimes my cheap, pre-paid cell phone and I have serious issues and fail to communicate. Also, I'm extremely selective about who gets the cell number. Calls on the landline tend to be reminders from my doctor's office, telemarketers or people I really don't want to talk with.

Although it felt like I spent all of yesterday shoveling snow and making sure all the critters were okay, there was one bright note: A second pullet has laid her first egg. 🥚

Except for the leghorn, everyone in that coop should lay brown eggs, so I don't know who the newest producer is. But, I'm still proud of her!

Bundle up, everybody!!

There wasn't any wind so it didn't feel very cold at all.
This dog will chatter his teeth even when it's not below zero.

16F last warm day before the really cold temps hit
I did turn on the hydranic heat. it didn't show much improvement after 5 hours. not surprised. it was 43F air temp out there and the floor is concrete,. and the water has to heat up. any improvement when the cold weather hits will help.
how long do you think they will keep gauging the price of eggs ?
