Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

good august already. had five relatives' birthdays in 2 days.
today all i did so far was to set all 3 box traps again. watered the plants real good. cut the top tips off of the tomatoes. they are to the top of the stakes. i am hooping the energy will go into setting tomatoes instead of making more vine.
some of the tomatoes are turning red. the lettuce should be ready when the tomatoes turn red. fresh blt's will be on the menu.
corn at out favorite farmer is $1.oo/per ear.
Annie bought some from Walmart for .25/ear
it surprisingly was good. just a tad not real fresh.
i dug the 2 wheel cart out of storage. will pull it with the lawn mower for picking rocks.

I'm glad it's August already. I'm always happy when summer goes fast. Too warm, or smoky this year. Now it's starting to get dry. I see some of my tomatoes have blight, but I will get enough. I planted more than we need. Pumpkins are ripening too already.

My oldest dog had a dental tomorrow. Not sure who is more worried. Probably me. I don't think she knows tomorrow will be another day at the vet. She hates it there. I feel guilty, but know she needs it.

l imagine Barb is well on her way to her decompression destination.
I can't believe how fast these raised beds dry out
i am watering the new radish seeds about 3 times a day. i trimmed a few sprigs of wilt off of 2 tomato plants.
I set two of the box traps with fresh pulled beets.
what self respecting ground hog can pass that up?
I feel like Elmer Fudd. I'll catch you you wasckle ,.

That's the downside to raised beds. The constant watering. We haven't had rain in a few weeks now, and could use some. August is always the month of crunchy grass. At least the lawn mower gets used less often.

If I get the ambition up I'm gonna go chop my tomatoes down to their set fruit, all but the cherry tomato. There's enough set now for me to freeze. We don't use many, just a few kettles of chili bean soup through winter.

I picked my first full sized tomato this afternoon, we are having BLT's

My cat Barney died today, he was almost 19, let him go naturally. We were told by his vet many years ago that he had a bad heart, I chose not to do anything about it, just let him enjoy his life. Vet wasn't very happy with my decision. We are happy with my decision. I know Barney had a good life, and that is what matters. We have decided no more kitties, they live long and I don't know if I want to be cleaning litter boxes in 20 years. My oldest cat lived to be almost 22. ❤️

So very sorry. That's a long life for a cat. Doesn't make it any easier to lose them.

So sorry :hugs losing them is the worst part :hugs litter boxes are next worst LOL I can’t have a cat where I live now as we have family who’s allergic but I don’t know that I would get another even if I could. I HATE cleaning litter boxes hahah plus I’m not sure how Brew would do with a cat. He was fine with our old cat but not sure about an “outsider.” LOL

good warm morning 71F at 6am already
supposed to get thunderstorms.
here's a piece of irony: I have a 2 wheel cart that can be pulled behind a yard tractor or lawn mower
i put it for sale on marketplace way over a year ago
i have never used it,. thursday, i hooked onto it and put my bag of seed oats into it. friday someone made me an offer on it. i accepted the offer, now i am waiting for a response. not holding my breath. most of the time these offers are just spam.
i guess the woodchuck doesn't like beets. bro Dave said to use broccolli , it worked for him
we also are enjoying blt's,
Annie picked one of the green peppers, it is huge.
bigger than a softball. made stuffed peppers
i am thinking of letting one get red so i can save seeds for next year.
imho, next year would be a good time to raise tomatoes to sell . corn, too if you have the space

You know something Jim that I don't know about next year? I was gonna grow less stuff. Plan on putting my blueberry shrubs in my garden boxes and try growing the tomatoes in the containers instead.

We plan to eat BLT's too. Gotta do something with the tomatoes.
