Dreaming of spring

But hey, that’s why I have you guys to crush my dreams.
We are more than happy to help!
:p

I'm in the same position as you. I'd love a friendlier duck. I'd love to incubate an egg or 2 this summer when I have time to spend with them and make them friendly.

Alas, here I sit with a bunch of roudy drakess, though I can pet my pekins on their fronts, in exchange for mealworms.

Keep us updated please!

Just took this picture of the flock at the moment.. anyone ever breed all white ducks with other ducks before... pics?

We raised all our chicks in our only bathroom, and for various reasons, could not put them outside for many months (the coop wasn't built, killer rooster attacking the next new batch, weather was too cold, etc...).

I have insanely friendly, loving birds now. If I am sitting anywhere in the backyard, there is a chicken on my lap (cat on my lap in the house, chicken on my lap outside).

The downside, was that my bathroom was revolting, and required a complete deep clean from top to bottom, plus new baseboard trim, and a paint job.

I'm sure you could do something similar with ducks, and works best with the littles. Best of luck, whatever method you decide. :)

@Jpat Have you had a duck that was constantly going from pet to flock member life though? I think I can make the duck okay with it if I start from duckling. Lone ducklings are quick to bond to any living thing not loud and obnoxious. But my mallard which I hope to get broody and be mama was not happy when I integrated my 3 new hens even though they were coming for sexual relief! So I know the other ducklings this spring will be fine with coming and going, she might not. But if I can manage that you guys have me believing its all totally possible, which would be awesome!
there will be a turning point where they are stressed being away from the ducks, There natural safe space is in a croud of ducks

try it tho

It is 100% worth a try. It's all going to depend on how your flock takes it but I know the baby would be okay with it if you incubated and hatched inside and allowed it to stay inside for a while. Maybe, just maybe, the lap duck would rub off on your other ducks and just hopefully not the other way around! You'll just need to get the baby duck accustomed to you and indoors being a relaxing spot so when you bring it in, it's thinking more along the lines of vacation and not stress.
