I have BBS Orp eggs in my bator hatching. The first egg that pipped, yesterday morning around 11:30 has zipped most of the way around. I have had 3 others hatch fine, and have 4 more pipped/zipping. The egg that is mostly zipped and that pipped yesterday morning, it is obvious that the exposed membrane is dried onto it. It appears to be stuck in the shell. I really want to take it out and moisten it, but I have all these other eggs zipping and pipping and am afraid of messing them up. What do I do?????

I'd help if I were you. At this point, if the membrane is stuck the chick won't be able to get out. I'd just try to be quick and keep a close eye on your other eggs to make sure they aren't stickers, either.

Good luck!

I quickly took it out, and helped it. It was SOOOOO stuck in there, there is no way it would have gotten out on its own. I even had a hard time getting it out. But it is out and alive. I quickly put it back in the bator to dry off, so hopefully it will be OK. And I am pretty sure that it is BLACK!!! WOOHOO!!

I've had to do this a couple of times (thanks LG for the great humidity control). Make sure all of the stiff goo is off the baby. I've seen everything from eyes glued shut to a wing that couldn't be moved, all from stiffened hatch goo.

Ugh, I have a chick with dried goo all over him, poor boy. I usually leave it be; it falls off on its own in a few days. I'd rather have them be slightly uncomfortable for a while than accidently rip their skin off in an effort to get the goo off. They sure look pitiful though.

If you take your time and use lots of warm water and a paper towel, their skin will be fine. Getting everything thoroughly wet is the key. Of course, you then have to make sure they don't get a chill.
