so I got mealworms both as treats and to bulk up the protein for my chicks (turkey needs higher protein levels then I can find at a decent price!) but all I could find were dried mealworms... my chicks (3-7 wks) don’t know what to do with them!
Should I have held off and gotten the live ones instead? (Where do you get live mealworms?)

Supposed to say dried vs live

Live ones are sold at pet stores (reptile section most likely).

If the chicks have never had something like mealworms before they're going to be scared to try them at first, so you just have to be persistent and patient. Once they discover they're tasty they'll be fighting over them.

It was so funny when we tried mealworms on our chickens, snubbed their beaks at it, the dried ones. The girls wanted nothing to do with them, they preferred the worms in some garbage we had. I'm so glad you had the tip on where to get live ones...

Give them time, and they will figure out that the dried are tasty. When I first tried them, at about 2 weeks, they totally ignored them. A few days later, they were the favorite treat.

I pushed the dried mealworms around on the palm of my hand to make it look like they were wiggling, lol. That got the chicks' interest, and after a few tries over the course of a week they were eating them eagerly!
