How do you all tackle your drinkers? My coop is shared by my chickens and ducks and the ducks are making the coop floor wet in the corner the drinkers are in, which in turn is making it smelly and muddy. It's a cement floor, but they somehow get it muddy. I don't want to deprive them of water at night, but I also want to take care of this mess so no one gets sick and I don't have to smell it!

Does anyone have any similar experiences and how did you tackle it?

We only have water in the run. Last summer there was also a waterer in the coop but I took it out last fall and never put it back Chickens don't drink at night anyway, but I know nothing about ducks.

What kind of waterer are you using?
Do they drink at night in the dark.....or in the morning before you let them out?

I recall one guys had his duck waterer over a drain basin with a pipe that routed spillage outside .

You might be better off asking this question in the Ducks Forum.

The drain basin would work. I guess I posted here because I was curious about the chicken waterer too. I have just the standard waters you can get at any farm store and I'm not a fan. It's messy even with the chickens. Has anyone made PVC drinkers and liked them?

I use horizontal nipples almost exclusively......I think ducks can drink from them, but can't rinse nares or mush food.
