drinking / eating enough?

I got 4 1 day old chicks on Wednesday and they seem happy as pie, however, I was expecting a lot more poop.... there doesn't seem to be much, and they don't seem to be going through the water as I expected. I have a auto nipple thing drilled into a large thick plastic bottle. they all are able to use the nipple. are they effectively drinking?

If they know how to use it, then they should be fine.

they seem to... but sometimes I see they smacking at it from the side or top of nipple, as opposed to the very bottle to push it up and get more out...

If you are concerned, for a few days put a small water-er in there. They should be fine if they are using it thought. When I first did had chicks, I thought they would make a greater mess then they did initially too.
