I'm having trouble giving my Brahma her medicine though an eyedropper. Does anyone have any special tips to get them to open their little beaks?

We use a baby syringe, it's easier. You can get them at Rite Aid. Hold her head (no she won't like it) and open her beak with your fingers. Then slip the dropper in, real fast.

I'm afraid of getting liquid in the lungs. I 'drop' the medicine on the top/side of the beak and let the medicine roll slowly into the mouth so they can swallow it. It takes time but I don't have to worry about aspiration into the lungs.

Get a 1cc syringe. Most vets have them, as well as larger, independant pharmacies. You can then put the syringe way down the throat, and safely dispense the medicine, or even handfeeding formula. I believe ther are also .5 cc syringes, but I've never seen any.

Do you manually open her mouth first?

Hold her head in your hand by putting the back of her head in the web between your thumb and forefinger. Gently pull her head back until her beak is vertical. She will automatically open her beak and you can put your syringe in. Works on cats too.
