okay so my delaware hen Flurry DROOLS. not in a sickly kind of way, we’d know, but she’s done this her whole life- we bought her from a feed store near POL, and she was sold to us as a columbian wyandotte (we picked her up with Kiwi who was sold as a barred rock, and is actually a dominique. suffice to say it was kinda sketchy) and we weren’t sure how to deal with a delaware since we’d never had one before. from the start this girl was quirky. loud honking voice, personality of a labrador, follows you at your feet close enough to trip you (has definitely done that a few times). she’s always tailing us, honking for treats, and it’s been over a year and a half of this.
something she’s always done is drool. it’s weird. she’ll go up to you, look at your face, honk, and then shake her head and send drool flying onto your ankles. hand feeding her is a nightmare because she drools all over your hands. i tried to pick her up (i was feeding the babies and she’s a little food monster, so i needed to let the babies get some) and she drooled all over my hand. she’s like a little kid.
i know this isn’t some sort of sick behavior because this has been a constant in her life and she’s the liveliest and one of the best egg producers we have. i’m just wondering.. why? and i guess sometimes the answer could just be as simple as, “she drools a lot.”
