We have a rooster that is drooling when he trys to eat his feed. It makes it hard for him to eat due to the drooling. I looked inside his beck on there seems to be a area in the right corner of his inside beck that is a yellowish raised area that a little lifted up off his beck. It seems to be sore to him for me to touch it. I can't afford a vet on SSI and I get so many different things it could be. Any ideas what to try?? I have tried apple cider vinegar in the water for a few days yet no help.

How does his breath smell?

If he smells bad, it probably is canker/trichomoniasis which will need to be treated with Ronidazole or similar and the yellow masses need to be removed from his mouth and throat to enable better breathing and feeding.

I agree that he may have canker or trichomoniasis, a protozoan disease. Canker may affect the tongue, beak, throat and spread to the crop wall making it difficult to eat and drink. It is highly contagious and a disease carried by pigeons, spread by drinking water. Removal of the yellow plaques causes bleeding, but may be necessary to keep his airway open. I would separate him and disinfect all waterers and feeders, and prevent chickens from drinking from puddles. It is treated with anti-protozoan drugs such as metronidazol, ronidazol, and others. Some use acidified copper sulfate to treat it, or to use as a preventative for 3 days a month in the water (avoid metal waterers with it.) I would examine beaks of other chickens for signs. Personally, it can be very hard to treat, and can spread to others, so it would be something that I would cull for. Be aware that the wet version of fowl pox may look similar to canker. Have you seen any dry fowl pox in your flock?
