Thank you so much for your responses. I was finally able to get her to an avian vet. The vet thought she had egg peritonitis and drained 400 ml of fluid from her abdomen. She gave her fluids under the skin and provided me with an antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory. I brought her home, provided her with food and water but within a couple of hours she had much trouble breathing and spewed so much fluid from her mouth and died. Last week I lost a 3 year old hen to fly strike. Two weeks before that, my daughter lost her much much much beloved rooster after a 2 year long battle with various ailments which in the end cost her (get ready for this) $20,000. Now, we love the 9 we have left but truly are becoming increasingly unenthused with chicken keeping.
