I would suggest turning off the cad(I know, it's hard) and getting some 1/4" foam core board and a dozen eggs and building a protoype trough to study the real world physics by direct observation.

I'm working through the design process it will be some time before I can prototype it out

Sometimes prototyping simple movements with products and aspects/parts of an assembly can save hours of developing the wrong design concept. Speaking from 18+ years experience of designing pharmaceutical equipment.
