Ok so what are some things that can cause a chicken to drop dead. No apparent sickness or wounds. Acting normal and eating. Nothing strange. Fine on the roost yesterday and dead today. Heat maybe? It was in the 80s. They have shade and plenty of cool water. Windows are open in the coop. I am thinking the heat got her.

Found her on the floor of the coop this morning..

We just had a second hen do this. The first was a few months ago. We let them out to free range two hours she was in the yard dead. I am still baffled over this one. Mo wounds to accuse a predator. Just done. Wasn't as warm to blame the heat.

Just looking for ideas to help decipher if I need to do something or treat for something. Poo is normal, everyone is acting normal.

Fatty liver disease, heart attack? Hard to say without a necropsy. If there is a good side, sudden death in chickens is generally not caused by an infectious entity. Sorry for the loss.

Thanks.. I was worried I wasn't catching something. She was only about a year. The one who passed a few months ago was 3 years. It just baffles me that she is fine then gone. She was my only colored egg layer. I do have a few young ones that are not old enough to lay yet.

This is why I always add a few each year because we loose a few each year.
