Drop in egg production-Why? how long??

Could be the cold weather, short days, molting, brooding, lice... any and all. Supplement with extra protein - it will help them grow back their feathers if they're molting, or give them extra energy to stay warm. Mine seem to lay better when I give them egg or fish as treats more often during the winter.

February is always the darkest, coldest, foggiest month where we live. And sure enough we went from an overall average of 5 eggs from six hens daily, down to 3-4 eggs daily for the last few weeks. But we have also had a few 6 egg days. I just think it's that time of year and nature will take it's course...but like you I would have the vet check a fecal just to be sure, then give a bit more protein as extra insurance.

well , My hens acted like they were NOT going to lay much at all during the summer , so when the daylight hours were decreased , we put lights in the coops and sure enough , we went from picking 6 - 8 eggs a day to NOW picking 30 - 32 eggs . still have like 40 that have not started laying yet , LOOK out when the spring kicks in .

Plenty of fresh water and Laying pellets for all .
