I was just out candling the eggs under my silkie and the one that looked the most promising got dropped onto the flashlight by me. It looked perfectly fine until I noticed what looks like a teeny tiny crack right where the air pocket is. It's so tiny that you can only see the crack while candling...you can't see it with the naked eye.

Is it ruined? Did I kill it? I want to cry! I feel so horrible!

The crack is super tiny. Like I said, you can't even see it with the naked eye. I just did a search and read that you can put candle wax over the crack. I'm gonna go do that.

My friend dropped a flashlight on some of my eggs. We dipped them in unscented white candle wax and they still hatched. As long as it's not leaking, it should work.

Yeah, ditto about the candle wax. I have heard of people putting unscented candle wax on cracked eggs and having them hatch.

I'll be watching this thread. While trying to move my broody to a new nest an egg was cracked in the process. I opened the 6 day old egg and I saw the eye and a tiny, tiny formed body.

I hope you have success.

It's good that you only cracked the eggshell slightly. I've read that wax can be used to seal the crack. When I was candling my last batch of eggs in the incubator, I dropped one egg onto the floor--it really cracked.

I couldn't believe I did that, but there was no development in that egg. Still made me mad though.

I did the same thing today. Huge crack. But no leaks. So I waxed it up and put it back in the bator. I can see a moving baby in there. So I'm just leaving it alone and hoping for the best.

Sorry for your mishap. This is the first time it's happened to me, and it's heartbreaking!
