Dropped baby chick

He didn’t make it. I went to check on him and he wasn’t good. Breathing was very heavy and was limp. He died a few minutes after I went in there. At least he was held during his last few minutes of life. I’m so heartbroken.

I'm sorry this happened. The chick must have hit it's head or landed really badly because I have also had chicks fly out of my hand and fall-the latest was my Salmon Faverolle Blinky when I was cleaning her eye in the bathroom. I was sitting on the toilet and she jumped and fell onto the tile floor. She was a few days old. Don't let this experience discourage you because it sounds like a freak accident. You are doing great-especially with all you have going on!

Thank you. I wouldn’t be near as distraught if it hadn’t have been my fault. I tried so hard to be careful and still screwed up and that poor baby paid the price. I am dreading telling my kids when they wake up. I’m just thankful it didn’t happen to the one they are really attached to.

It was so strange. It landed so softly. It fluttered most of the way down so I thought it was fine. The behavior worried me after. He was my biggest one too. All the encouraging things I read really had me hopeful. I really think it was a freak accident. It was such a minor drop compared to all of stories I read throughout the night. Thank you for the kind words. It’s truly helping a lot this morning. We are supposed to go feed our new baby goats this morning that we get in a few weeks so I’m mentally trying to prepare for that. It’s our first time feeding them and I hate that I won’t fully enjoy it. I understand this comes with the territory but it being the first time for me, it’s going to be a tough one.
