DROPPED EGG! (Graphic photos)

I'm so sorry things didn't go well this hatch.

Can I ask what your humidity has been throughout and did you salt test a humidity gauge?

The humidity was 50% during incubation and 70% during lockdown. I have not salt tested my humidity gauge, I haven’t heard of that before. I’ll look into doing that now. :hit

I think your humidity was too high.
:(
Next time try to run your bator closer to 35% and bump it up to 50% once you see the first external pip.

Unfortunately I cannot copy and paste links right now but if you Google this...

You will see that having too high humidity throughout can cause them to die before even pipping.

Please don’t feel bad because EVERYTHING I read about humidity said 50% before I found other info on this forum. Also everyone has a different opinion. So sorry for this awful thing. I feel so sad for you.

Thanks you guys. I’m shocked 50% was too high, everything I read said I wanted 50% exact. I’ll go for 35% this time! :barnie

I have my fingers crossed this time. Eggs will be arriving next Monday, incubator is now in a safe spot where I won’t accidentally kick it, and now I know the proper humidity. I’ll look into this “salt testing” for my humidity gauges too. :)

Please do more research for humidity. Marans need more humidity at lock down because they have tough shells. I had 35-40% and 60-65% at lockdown and all my marans that had developed hatched. I lost a few but they were shipped eggs.

This is the article I found most helpful

After I salt tested my hygrometer I was happy. Also I did a test for my thermometer using ice. As you will find it’s all more complicated than you maybe first thought. I hope you have better success the next time. I broke two eggs my first time during candling and felt awful. I was much more careful the second time.
