I recently put dropping boards on top of the pine shavings underneath the roost in our coop. How often does everyone clean them? It's only been a week and it's already smelly and attracting a ton of flies.

My dropping boards have a lip and I fill them up with sand , I scoop mine every morning because as you said there are a million flies on fresh poop :/

PDZ is not available to me but others use that and also sprinkle diatomaceous earth to dry up the poops!

I scrape mine every morning with a 6 - 8" putty knife. Mine are painted, so I scrape, spray with vinegar, and wipe down. Bucket of scrapings goes in the compost. Only takes a few minutes.

Thanks folks! Sounds like I need to clean more often. Spraying with vinegar is also a good idea. Will go get a fresh fly trap, and then get to work scraping :)

I use a poop board with 1/4 - 1/2 inch of PDZ. I scoop it every morning, I hardly ever see a fly and my coop has no bad odors. PDZ helps with odor control. You could sprinkle some on your shavings to help with coop odors.
Here's my board, a pic of my scooping tools and PDZ leveling tool(board with eye hooks) for my board. All the board poop goes in my compost bin.
